2014 Projects, Events & Workshops

October 15th and 22nd, Wednesday: 6:00 - 9:00 PM. Newcastle Best Gardening Practices at the Seattle Revival Center in Newcastle. Tabling event. We'll promote the National Wildlife Habitat Program to certify Newcastle as a Wildlife Habitat Community.

November 1st, Saturday: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Weeding at the King Conservation District nursery. Your volunteer hours turn into trees for our restoration plantings! Location: Map the Nursery is just off of Grady Way to the north on Longacres Drive SW.

November 2nd, 9th, & 16th, Sundays: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Project includes weed removal and restoration of the Riverton Heights Prayer Garden at the Fellowship Bible Church in Tukwila, WA.

Novemebr 8th & 22nd, Saturdays: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Placing Door hangers from the National Wildlife Federation program to Certify Newcastle as a Community Wildlife Habitat. Meet at Lake Boren Park. Map Wear comfortable walking shoes.

December 6th, Saturday: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Mar 1st: Blackberry & Restoration Project in Lake Boren Park - Project Flier - 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Wear sturdy shoes. Tools and gloves provided. Project Partner YESC.

Mar 1st: Weed Warriors information host booth with kid's activity at King Conservation District Community Plant Fair, 1107 SW Grady Way Renton, WA .
All Day, 9:00 am to 4:00
pm. Volunteers needed to help set up and host booth! Event begins at 10:00 am. Call Grace at 206.795.5783 to volunteer as space is limited.

May 3rd: Weed Warrior Info Booth at Native Plant Society Plant Sale on Mercer Island, Mercerdale Park, 77th Ave and 32nd St., 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
Volunteers needed to host Weed Warrior booth and kid's activity.

May 10th: King County Library presents the 'Volunteer Fair for Teens' at the Newcastle Library. 2:00 - 4:00 PM Volunteers needed to help host Weed Warrior table. Info Flier

May 10th: Safeco Field 6:00 PM Game. Volunteers arrive at 5:30 PM to help with PSSH table. Volunteers receive a free t-shirt, but do have to purchase your own entrance ticket. Use promo code Salmon when purchasing your ticket. Poster

June 7th: Celebrate Trails with a Walk 'n Talk for National Trails Day on the May Creek Trail - 10:00 AM to Noon - Meet at Lake Boren Park near the Trails Map kiosk. The Talk is on Native Edible Plants which attendees will discover along the way. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.

August: Caterpillar Collection & Tansy Removal Location - Project Preview

August 29th: Weeding native plant pots and beds at the King Conservation District Nursery. 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Nursery location: at the corner of SW Grady Way and Longacres Dr. SW, Renton, WA. Park in the gravel driveway. Gloves and tools provided.

September 6th:
Newcastle Days in Lake Boren Park: Volunteers host booth. Volunteers Sign in at 10:00 AM

September 13th: Knotweed Workshop -10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Location: SE May Creek Park Drive and 124th Ave SE. Newcastle, WA. Parking is available at the end of 124th Ave. near the large stand of knotweed. Workshop takes place on loaction. Attendees will receive instruction and have hands on practice with injectors. Class & project qualifies individuals to borrow herbicide injectors from King County. Map Flier This Knotweed Workshop is made possible by partnering with the City of Newcastle, the King Conservation District, and the King County Noxious Weed Program.

September 25th: Native Plant Sale at Burien Farmer's Market for fall Rain Garden installations. Volunteers needed throught the day. 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

September 28th: Ivy Removal at Riverton Heights Prayer Garden in Tukwila.
